Maki From NYC Stretches His Claws and Writes Purrfectly

It is so great to have animal friends around the country and world with whom I correspond. Most of my pals are other dogs, but I am trying to expand my circle of friends to include species other than my own, including cats! Actually, I love kitties so much that when I meet them in person there is little time for them to say anything before my mouth inquisitively assess their taste. So, my feline friend, Maki, benefits from our long distance relationship in keeping him from becoming a Cardiff snack. Maki is a Maine Coon who used to live in Los Angeles, where his mom was my dad’s client (and Maki was my dad’s patient), but he has escaped the constant glare of celebrity-crazed paparazzi for a more sophisticated existence in New York City cat. Here is our first correspondence, which will is part of an ongoing series of bi-coastal conversations. Dear Cousin Cardiff, This summer has been brutal. It wasn't that bad last year, I think we had 2 weeks of very hot humid weather, but that was about it. When I say Brutal, I really mean it. It's been so hot! Actually, the heat is okay, but the humidity is what's making me lethargic. I know cat's sleeps most of the time, but it's been so hot, I don't even feel like eating!! Times like this I really miss living in Los Angeles. I really miss the sunshine and the dry heat. It was so much better for me. Because of the heat, I've been shedding a ton. Is that normal? I hate being brushed, especially my mane and my belly! I just hate it. I see mum coming at me with the brush and I will run and we will play "catch me if you can." My belly and my mane get's nappy and knotted up and brushing that out just hurts me. I think mum got a little frustrated too with all her black work clothes and suitcases (she travels a lot and I enjoy sleeping in her suitcases) covered my hair, so she took me to get a hair cut at Happy Paws down in SoHo. The lady groomer was very lovely (she was a blond). She cleaned my ears, gave me a pedicure, washed me and gave me this new do. What do you think? Photo of Maki Post Haircut I hated it at first, I thought I felt kind of naked, but I am loving it now. On a hot day, I do no longer hide in the bathroom to keep cool. Also, my mum doesn't have to chase and wrestle with me to brush me out. I'm sure she's happy. Miss you cousin Cardiff! Cheers, Maki Thank you for reading my latest dog blog post.
