The canine community recently lost a gentle, senior member of its clan when Stock from the D.E.L.T.A. Rescue passed away. Stock had the fortune of being saved from an adverse situation and given a new lease on life through D.E.L.T.A. Rescue. I had the chance to work with Stock as a patient in his last few months of life. I saw Stock’s mobility benefit from acupuncture treatment, dietary supplementation, and the incorporation of Chinese herbs into his regimen of medications and physical therapy.
The director of the D.E.L.T.A. Rescue, Leo Grillo, had the following recollection of Stock:
Lock, Stock and Barrel were three puppies I rescued over three days and nights, in the heavy rains, many years ago -- I was forced to invent many new ways of catching dogs and only three methods worked -- one a night for three nights. They were always very feral-acting, though happy to have each other, until they got old. They were also in one of my most iconic photos, all huddled together around a tree at the sanctuary.
We are working on uncovering the above mentioned photo, so the photo included in this memorial is currently the sole means we have of commemorating Stock’s life.
D.E.L.T.A. (Dedication and Everlasting Love to Animals) Rescue is the largest “No Kill, Care-for-Life,” sanctuary of its kind in the world. The Los Angeles area site houses and provides medical care to more than 1500 animals, including dogs, cats, horses, goats, and birds. Founded by Leo Grillo in 1979, D.E.L.T.A. Rescue incorporated as a non-profit animal rescue and tax-exempt 501 [c] 3 organization in 1982.
Please make a donation to the D.E.L.T.A Rescue to help fund food, housing, and medical care for animals in need.
