Hanging with My Welsh Terrier Buddies at the 2010 AKC/Eukanuba National Championships

I was so excited to attend my first dog show. No, I wasn’t there as a canine competitor, as I have been robbed of my manhood and its best that my IMHA flawed genes are not passed on to subsequent generations of Welsh Terrier puppies. My dads took me for a fun day trip down to Long Beach, CA, where we attended the 2010 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (also see my dad's veterinary blog: My Top Five Favorites of the 2010 AKC Eukanuba National Championship). So many interesting and stimulating things were going on that I could barely contain my enthusiasm. Photo of Flying Leap Into the Pool Right when we walked in, I spied a water filled tank serving as the landing spot for dogs participating in a long-jump style toy fetch. I so wanted to get up there and show off my fierce competitive nature, but my dads thought my interests were best served putting on my ‘Best in Show” best elsewhere. I had a good vantage point and was able to appreciate the athleticism of other dogs taking the plunge in pursuit of their favorite plaything. As sightings of other Welsh Terriers are relatively rare in Southern California, I was quivering with anticipation of the opportunity to hang out with my relatives at the show. This year celebrated the sixth annual ‘AKC Meet the Breeds’, so the general public could become more familiar with the Welsh Terrier and other AKC recognized breeds. I represented my Welsh lineage (via Washington) with my fellow cousins at the Welsh Terrier Club of Southern California booth. Aggie (Agatha Christie, pictured) and Pickles also helped represent our breed and lent credence to our reputation of appearing like a stuffed animal. Initially, I was slightly confused by all the humans wandering the course without their dogs while seemingly in a trance. It all made sense later when both humans and dogs took to the agility grounds to compete.
