Pet X Talks Dr. Patrick Mahaney on Understanding the Different Approaches to Pet Medicine

Are you aware that there are numerous appropraches we veterinarians take when addressing the health concerns of our animal patients? Western (conventional), Eastern (Chinese medicine), holistic, and integrative, are just a few examples of the many perspectives that can shed light on the nature of pet ailments and the best approach to managing them. As a result of my early years working as a veterinary technician, my education at The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and 18 years working in clinical practice I have a strong background in Western veterinary medicine. Yet, I'm also a certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA) and practitioner of traditional Chinese veterinary medicine (TCVM), so I also approach my patients' health problems from the Eastern perspective. It's not as though one side of my brain turns off and the other turns on in order to let me use both. For each case, I combine the Western and Eastern perspectives and take an integrative approach. Through Pet World Insider I cover the differences and similarities of some of the approaches we veterinarians use in treating our patients.
